John Mayall
ジョン・メイオール(1933年11月29日-)はイギリス・マンチェスター出身のブルース・シンガーソングライター。ジョン・メイオール&ザ・ブルースブレイカーズ（John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers）を率いて1960年代より活躍。2005年に大英帝国勲章（OBE）を受章した。

ギタリストの父の影響で子供の頃からブルースに親しみ、楽器を覚える。本格的にバンド活動を始めたのは1956年から。1963年、ブルース・ギタリストの先駆者的存在であるAlexis Kornerのアドバイスのもとロンドンへ移住し、後にBluesbreakers というバンドを結成。Bluesbreaker は1963年から1970年代の半ばにかけて15通りほどの多様な形態を持った特殊なバンド。メンバーには一時Eric ClaptonやPeter Green、Mick Taylorらも在籍しており、一番長くバンドに在籍していたのはベーシストのJohn McVie、4年ほど活動を共にしていた。

John Mayall Bluesbreakers & Eric Clapton - Hideaway

バンドは1965年に"I'm Your Witchdoctor"というシングルをリリースし、1966年に「Bluesbreakers」というアルバムをリリースしたが、アルバムに含まれるギターフレーズがリスナーの間で話題となり Eric Clapton の名を一躍有名にした。その後 Clapton は Jack Bruce と Cream というグループを結成するために Bluesbreakers を離れることになる。入れ替わりでバンドに加入したのが Peter Green、彼は Mayall と共に「A Hard Road」というアルバムと幾つかのシングルをリリースした。

Clapton や Green は才能に長けており、メンバーとしては少し器量が大き過ぎたのかもしれない。Green も1967年の半ばに Fleetwood Mac というバンドを結成するためにバンドを離れることになる。Mayall が次に目をつけたのが当時19歳であったMick Taylor。有能なギタリスト、Mick も1年ほどバンドに在籍したものの1969年に The Rolling Stones に加入するためバンドを離れる。

Mayall は1960年代後半にLos Angelesに移住し、Bluesbreakers 名義でアコースティック・ライブ・アルバム「The Turning Point」をリリース。その後1970年代においてもアメリカで活躍を続け、ブルースを広めることに貢献する。

2000年代に入ってもコンスタントに新作を発表しており、2007年リリースしたアルバム「In The Palace of the King」が現時点での最新作。現在も精力的にライヴ活動を行っている。
